Let me reply your questions…

1) Can I make the home page full screen (ie no sidebar) as I want to have some large full width images on this page.

Yes, you can. Instead of selecting ‘Homepage’ template please select ‘Full Width Page’ template from the options for your Frontpage.

2) Can I change the social media icon images as the one’s it is using are a little bold & would like something lighter?

You can simply override the icons with yours. Simply upload your icons to your icons folder within theme files /wp-content/themes/tinyboat/images/icons/ If you look into this folder you will notice the icons for social media. At the moment only black ones are available in the social networks (icons) widget. If you replace them they will be automatically replaced with yours.
You can either upload them via FTP or via File Manager (i.e. in the cPanel of your hosting).
